War museum

Kobariški muzej relates the events of the first world war at the Isonzo front. It describes two and a half years of static fighting, in particular the 12th battle at the Isonzo front known as the breach of Kobarid. This is one of the major battles fought in this mountain region of all human history. The objects on exhibit, the great heights of the nearby mountains, the rich photographic material and the multivisual shows describe with feeling the story of those difficult and bloody days passed along the River Soca (Isonzo). The events described are mingled with the vicissitudes and memories of famous people such as Ernest Hemingway and Erwin Rommel.
Kobariški muzej has received the highest recognition from the State and has also been nominated for best European museum; from the European Council it received the 1993 museum award. Kobariški muzej is also the guardian of the historical itinerary of Kobarid, which links the most important historical points and the natural wonders in the area around Kobarid, thereby completing the story that began at the museum. The tour lasts from 3 to 4 hours. The path takes you from ancient times to the first world war, showing the many natural beauties found in the narrow gorge of the Soca river and the mysterious waterfalls of its tributaries.
